Iris Bloemsma

Iris Bloemsma works at the intersection of biodiversity science and the financial and corporate world. With a (corporate/financial institution) background in strategy, transformation and stakeholder engagement, my role focuses on facilitating collaboration between these domains. It also focuses on supporting the translation of scientific knowledge into actionable, implementable insights (aligned with regulatory frameworks) through a tool developed by Naturalis for this purpose.

At Naturalis, my work centers on building bridges between science, policy and finance, fostering shared understanding and helping biodiversity considerations become embedded in business and financial decision-making.

A strong personal drive lies in strengthening the connection between biodiversity science and the financial and corporate sectors. Scientific insights hold enormous value, yet at times remain difficult to translate into daily decision-making in finance and business. My aim is to create alignment, a shared language and practical guidance so knowledge can move from insight to implementation to impact.

I believe in the power of communities: bringing together like-minded organizations that are willing to learn, share and act collectively. Such communities can accelerate the integration of biodiversity into corporate and financial practice and create the scale needed for real, nature-positive change.

Through initiatives such as THRIVE and the Coalition of the Willing, my ambition is to bring partners together across sectors and support the integration of biodiversity knowledge into corporate and financial decision processes.

As business owner and Engagement Lead, I work on the development of the THRIVE app, guiding its launch and future releases. THRIVE is developed as an open-source tool that supports Naturalis’ role as a trusted science-based partner, helping financial and corporate institutions embed biodiversity science into actionable decision-making in line with global climate and biodiversity ambitions
